Subtle Violence Results in Overwhelming Tenderness

September - November 2017

Returning to the concept of causing discomfort to the viewer, yet deciding to explore a slightly different route, one where the visual trigger is very minimal intended to cause only the slightest of distress, I begun exerting a mildy violent act of sewing through a delicte object (dried succulent petal). The subtle violence and the feeling of pressure the viewer experineced when handling the extremely delicate pieces, is intended to make you feel somewhat on edge. In the age when we are so used to being exposed to disturbing content every day - on TV, on social media, in the news, etc. - sometimes it's the small things that  leave the biggest impression.
