Jeffrey Dahmer

November 2018

This set of paintings is based on photographs from various newspaper articles covering the case of one of America's most notorious serial killers- Jeffrey Dahmer, or as he was called by the media the Malwakee Canibal. Who in 1991 was apprehended for rape, murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys. Dahmer had several psychological disorders but also experienced neglect as a child, therefore bringing up an interesting debate of which played a bigger role in shaping him into the monster he was.

The photographs that the paintings are based on are purposefully chosen to not give away the meaning behind them, as I wanted the viewer to first look at them as rather innocent and then experience the shock of realising the gruesome facts behind them, akin to the growing sense of horror one gets when reading the articles covering atrocious crimes like this one.
